In March its Atlantic fleet was dispatched first to the West Indies, the main prize, and then, after failing to capture Jamaica, in July it sailed north to Virginia, to join up with Rochambeau and Washington. Fatally, the Royal Navy, intent on protecting the sugar islands, failed to stop them, and so the French navy and army were able to trap a small British force under General Cornwallis at Yorktown. Rochambeau's army besieged it, seconded by Washington's men and local militia. On 19 October, with many men sick or wounded and ammunition nearly exhausted, the British surrendered. They marched out playing a popular tune, "The World Turned Upside Down."" from The English and Their History, Robert Tombs, 2014, Chapter 9: The Rise and Fall of the Atlantic Nation, page 361. on 19 October 1781 at Yorktown, U.S.A.. He "Upon the Governor's orders, surveys in this year of 1783 are now commenced, extending along the St. Lawrence from the Sault up west as far as the Carleton Island post, and past that point into that most remarkable waterway, the Bay of Kente region, whose many fingers of protected bays and inlets have been created by the peninsula which drops down from the otherwise even shoreline of Lake Ontario." from Hans Waltimeyer, page 187 & 198 in 1783 at Province of Quebec.5 He "The Treaty of Paris was signed on 3 September 1783. It concluded the American Revolution. Additionally, it established a boundary between the United States and British North America. The agreement gave the United States lands reserved for Indigenous people. This transfer betrayed earlier treaties and alliances between the British and Indigenous peoples. Aspects of the Treaty of Paris 1783: On 3 September 1783, Britain acknowledged American independence. This treaty recognized a boundary between British North America and the United States. The boundary went along the centre of the four Great Lakes (Ontario, Erie, Huron and Superior). The boundary ran from Lake of the Woods "due west" to what they imagined was the Mississippi's headwaters. It then went south along the Mississippi River." ARTICLE Treaty of Paris 1783

Land is distributed by lot, even before the surveys are completed. The setters are waiting impatiently to get on their land. Note: The twins, Joel and Lucretia, were born Aug 22 1795. This note is a bit misleading. Thomas and family came to Cramahe Twp. before 1803 and after the twins were born in 1795. William was married in 1794 and most of his children were born in Rome, NY. He first appears in Cramahe census records in 1810 and goes to 1818 when it appears he went to Loughborough near Kingston. (Dan Buchanan, Apr 10 2026.)4 He lived on 17 June 1797 at Cramahe Twp., Northumberland Co., Upper Canada; "Original Setttlers of Cramahe" show that George Palmer was on Conc 2, Lot 31 in 1797. No Draper names are on this list. Thomas Draper first appears in Cramahe Twp. in 1803.7 He "Meanwhile in New York, Thomas Draper IV was married to a Miss Brown (first name unknown) and they had a son, Charles. She left her son and Thomas, which must have been difficult for both of them. Thomas moved to Canada and Thomas' parents took Charles into their home; loved and raised him as their own." from "Life History of Mary Mosier Carey Draper" by Kaye Durfee Warnke, February 2016, found in Notes with Mary Mosier's FindaGrave record. https://www.findagrave.com/memorial/58511940/mary-draper) circa 1800 at Upper Canada.3 He immigrated in 1803 to Cramahe Twp., Northumberland Co., Upper Canada; Thomas Draper is in the 1804 Cramahe census but not in 1803. These records are relatively clear, so we can expect he was not established yet in 1803. (Dan Buchanan, Apr 10 2026.)7 He appeared on the census of 1804 at Cramahe Twp., Northumberland Co., Upper Canada; 1804 Census: Thomas Draper; 1 male over 16; 1 female over 16; 2 males under 16; 1 female under 16 (Newcastle District Census & Assessment Records, Cramahe Twp.)7 He appeared on the census of 1805 at Cramahe Twp., Northumberland Co., Upper Canada; 1805 Census: Thomas Draper; 1 male over 16; - female over 16; 2 males under 16; 1 female under 16 (Newcastle District Census & Assessment Records, Cramahe Twp.)7 He appeared on the census of 1806 at Cramahe Twp., Northumberland Co., Upper Canada; 1806 Census: Thomas Draper; 1 male over 16; - female over 16; 2 males under 16; - female under 16 (Newcastle District Census & Assessment Records, Cramahe Twp.)7 He "In January 1807 his father sent a faithful Indian friend down from Canada to the states with a message begging William to bring his family to Canada to see his mother before she died. She was extremely ill, and not expected to live. His parents were now living in Richmond Township, Frontenac Co., Ontario, Upper Canada. Even though the northern winter was bitterly cold and they faced a treacherous journey and though Lydia, William's wife, was expecting her fifth child within a few weeks, they were determined to go. They, with their four daughters and nephew Charles, travelled by sleigh and left New York State. " ... and with the Indian as guide they crossed the ice of Lake Erie. It was a dangerous venture but the Indian was a very valuable, capable guide. They also took Charles back to his father." When they reached Richmond they met with their father Thomas out along the road where he stood watch for them better. He was chopping trees to occupy his worried mind while waiting. He paid the Indian and gave him some food and he went back to his people well satisfied that he had led the son home in time." from page 268, "William Draper Sr. 1774-1854", US Family History Books, (page 313 of 378), (https://www.ancestry.ca/imageviewer/collections/62282/images/62282_b1064843-00312?rc=&queryId=76e50d2c-45bd-4efb-8d38-cb14e6d110d9&usePUB=true&_phsrc=aqD3447&_phstart=successSource&pId=4420138021)
Note: This section is problematic is many ways. We have to remember, this is verbal history based on recollections many years later. First, Richmond Township was in Lennox & Addington County, to the west of Frontenac County where Kingston was located. William's parents, Thomas and Lydia, were living in Cramahe Township, Northumberland County, well to the west of there. Thomas is mentioned in Cramahe census records from 1803 through to 1817 when he died. Lydia died in 1807, most likely in Cramahe Township where they lived. For folks in New York State, the various locations in Upper Canada were mysterious in those days. We also know that William's older brother, Thomas, was established in Ernestown Township around this time, near Richmond Township. in January 1807 at Richmond Twp., Lennox Co., Upper Canada. He Lydia (Rogers) Draper died Feb 7 1807. on 7 February 1807 at Cramahe Twp., Northumberland Co., Upper Canada. He appeared on the census of circa May 1807 at Cramahe Twp., Northumberland Co., Upper Canada; 1807 Census: Thomas Draper; 2 males over 16; 1 male under 16 (Newcastle District Census & Assessment Records, Cramahe Twp.)
Note: This record reflects the death of his wife on February 7, 1807. William Draper is not included in this census in Cramahe Township.7 He appeared on the census of 1813 at Cramahe Twp., Northumberland Co., Upper Canada; 1813 Census: Thomas Draper; 1 male over 16; 1 female over 16 (Newcastle District Census & Assessment Records, Cramahe Twp.)
Note: May not be the right Thomas??7 He appeared on the census of 1814 at Cramahe Twp., Northumberland Co., Upper Canada; 1814 Census: Thomas Draper; ? male over 16; 1 female over 16 (Very black, unclear) (Newcastle District Census & Assessment Records, Cramahe Twp.)
Note: May not be the right Thomas??7 He lived on 13 April 1814 at Conc 2 Lot 22, Richmond Twp., Lennox & Addington Co., Upper Canada; "The Registrar Office at Napanee, Ontario, gave the following item of interest to all of us quoting his letter "Having done considerable searching I can only find Thomas Draper, brought Lot 22, Concession 3, township of Richmond, 200 acres, Apr. 13, 1814. He sold the south half of that lot - 100 acres - Nov. 29 1814 and sold the rear half 100 acres Mar. 4 1825. I find no property owned by Palmers at that time." from page 30, the Descendants of George Palmer *& Phebe Draper, (https://www.ancestry.ca/imageviewer/collections/21372/images/dvm_GenMono005057-00029-0?pId=46.)4 He appeared on the census of 1815 at Cramahe Twp., Northumberland Co., Upper Canada; 1815 Census: Thomas Draper; 1 male over 16 (Newcastle District Census & Assessment Records, Cramahe Twp.) He appeared on the census of May 1817 at Cramahe Twp., Northumberland Co., Upper Canada; 1817 Census: Thomas Draper; 2 males over 16; 1 male under 16; 2 females (Newcastle District Census & Assessment Records, Cramahe Twp.)7 He died in September 1817 at Cramahe Twp., Northumberland Co., Upper Canada; Date 1817 & location Cobourg per FindaGrave. (Note: While death in Cobourg might be possible, I would need documentation for that. Newcastle District Census records for 1813, 1814 and 1815 show Thomas Draper lived in Cramahe Township, Northumberland Co. That is probably where he died. He is not seen in subsquent records. (Dan Buchanan, Apr 8 2026) per IGI Record.
Note: The months in the dates mean only that a census records was taken earier in 1817 and he died sometime after that. (Dan Buchanan, Apr 9 2026.)1,7 He was buried in September 1817 at Cramahe Twp., Northumerland Co., Upper Canada; FindaGrave: Name: Thomas Draper; Birth: 19 Dec 1739, Littleton, Middlesex County, Massachusetts, USA; Death: 1817 (aged 77–78), Cobourg, Northumberland County, Ontario, Canada; Burial: Burial Details Unknown; Memorial ID: 42650300; Note: Birth: (Newton, Middlesex, England) or (19 Dec. 1739, Groton township, New London,Connecticut, USA).
